"This has been one un-FALL-getable Hari Raya, Ihsan!" Mummy muttered as she slipped Ihsan's turquoise baju kurung over his head. Hmmm, I wonder if she was referring to this ....
Yup, my brother Ihsan did it again! He caused yet another stir in the household and this time round, it was on the morning of 1st Syawal itself, mind you! Unknowingly, Ihsan couldn't sleep that morning and whilst everybody in the house were busy doing some last minute preparations, Ihsan fell down at 12.30 a.m - hitting the side of the bed in the guest room. Panicked upon hearing the loud, excruciating wail (Ihsan is known for his 'drama', by the way) AND blood gushing like God-knows-what, my parents rushed him to a 24 hr clinic nearby, only to be referred to KK Hospital by the GP there. Well, to cut the story short, Ihsan was anaesthetised, his wound stitched up and soon after, our sleepy Daddy & Mummy had to wait for yet another hour for his condition to stabilise. As a result, our groggy parents managed to step into our abode ONLY at 4 a.m. - when everyone else was already in dreamland. Sighs! Talk about a great way to celebrate 1st Syawal, huh?
The moral of the story? To the kids out there: PLEASE.... PLEASE try to sleep by 9 p.m, hor! Don't ever THINK of surprising your parents by doing stunts of any nature, ESPECIALLY NOT on special occasions, hokay? :)
On that note, EID MUBARAK from us to all Muslims out there!

FAREWELL OH BLESSED RAMADHAN!
SO SYAHDU! SO SENDU! Well, I don't know what these terms mean, but Mummy uttered them nonetheless, as she heard the takbir the day before Syawal. Her emotional side got the better of her when she reflected upon the things that she has (and has NOT) done during the blessed month of Ramadhan. Of course, cry-baby-Mummy teared as she saw Ramadhan made way for Syawal. I suppose, Ramadhan means a lot to Mummy. It was a month of self-reflection. A month of strengthening bonds and ties. A month of self-purification.
For simple me, Ramadhan simply meant a month of tucking into oh-glorious-food - some new recipes courtesy of kind souls like Aunty Trin. A month of meeting my relatives and friends I don't usually meet. Basically, a month to enjoy being in the company of my loved ones. :)
What I Did Last Ramadhan
And for the first time ever, I followed Mummy to solat terawihs @ Al-Istighfar. I know some people claimed that children who are brought to solat terawihs can be a real nuisance to the other jemaahs. Then again, Mummy thought it would be somewhat a good exposure for me. Though I did not follow through the terawih session religously, I did learn the basic etiquettes that's required in the mosque.
My Terawih Experience
Well hopefully, come next Syawal, I will be ready to fast (at least half day). I'm TOTALLY inspired and awed by Kak Dini Amani, who is just a year older than me.... yet she fasted full day for a whole month, hokay? And she's only four!!!! So wish me luck for next year, ya!!!!

TOO FAST, TOO SOON
Whenever Mummy and her 8 Sahabatz get together, the house will surely be dinned with raucous laughter and tumultuous clatter. Iftar at Aunty Laf's abode @ Punggol last weekend was indeed, no exception. Whilst the Daddies were performing their solat terawih in the hall, the Mummies retreated to Aunty Laf's master bedroom to do what they do best - catching up with each other's lives and talking about practically anything under the sun (READ: GOSSIP!!)
Some of Mummy's gossip 'kakis' at a recent get together ~ No pic at Aunty Laf's place cos' Mummy's camera went berserk *Sheesh*
I'm uncertain of the exact details of their updates cos' I was after all, happily playing with Kak Lynn, Kak Umairah & Kak Nureen in the playroom next door. Nonetheless, from what I know, Mummy and her Sahabatz's discussions usually revolve around the issues of children's education and P1 registration.
WAIT! HOLD ON.... Isn't it TOO SOON to talk about P1 registration? I mean, the eldest amongst us is only 5 years of age. Is it really important for us to be enrolled in elite primary schools? Well, my Mummy and her 8 Sahabatz were all from neighbourhood primary schools and they did just fine, Alhamdulillah. Most of them are educators - some in prestigious schools and others holding middle management posts. In fact, some are even halfway through their Masters degrees. And NONE of them were from elite schools.
According to one of Mummy's Sahabatz who's coincidentally teaching in a sought after primary school in the east (which integrates Gifted Education Programme), parents who wish to enroll their children in that school have been serving the school (through the parent support group) since their children are 4. Even then, their place is not secured. So is it necessary for parents to go all out, just to ensure that their children get to elite schools?
Then, there's this other issue of placing their children in a single-sex primary school. One of Mummy's Sahabatz who's teaching in a top girls' (secondary) school at Anderson Road, is torn between putting her daughter in the primary school of the same name and a mixed school somewhere near her residence. If she chose the former, what if the second child she's bearing is a boy? Then, she'd have to go through the P1 registration all over again....
What's my Mummy's standing, you'd say? Well, at this juncture, Mummy's pretty contented just to enroll me in the nearest neighbourhood primary school, I think. Previously, Daddy was quite adamant on a single-sex primary school for his children. Coming from De/La/Salle/School and S/J/I - both of which are boys school - Daddy thinks it would be probable for Ihsan to get a place in what he calls a 'gahmen-aided brother school'. But hey, what about me???? Hmm, I think I'll just let my parents do the thinking and continue with this debate. After all, they still have 3 more years before they have to come to a decisive conclusion. In the mean time, I think I will just enjoy my childhood days and play as much as I can, ya .... :)

A TALE OF TWO IFTARS
Have you ever wished that you could be at two different places at the VERY same time? That you could split yourself into two like the Gingerbread Man, so that everyone gets a piece of you? That you could somehow whizz from one place to another in the nick of time, just like Superman?
Well, those were our exact sentiments last weekend. You see, my family members were invited to two iftars by two people who are dear to us - G G Ma at Lor Tua Kong & Tok Itam at Telok Blangah. And seriously, it was a tough choice to make....
G G Ma (or rather Great Grandma Zurina - she's my Granny's Aunty & Mum to fellow blogger called 'fashionista') has a special place in Mummy's heart. Being a colleague-cum-nenek saudara to my Mummy, G G Ma is truly a godsend angel who took care of Mummy when she was heavily pregnant with me. When Mummy was plagued with the vomiting bouts, G G Ma ensured that Mummy rested enough and gave her quick neck massages. When Mummy was too busy with work, G G Ma took the trouble to buy her food and placed it on Mummy's table (somehow Mummy couldn't stand the smell of canteen when she was pregnant and would strictly avoid the place). And since Mummy was pregnant with a girl the first time round, G G Ma took the liberty of placing a photograph of her absolutely adorable grand-daughter - Irdina Iman - on Mummy's table.... :)
In fact, Mummy was soooo smitten by Irdina Iman that.... Ya you guessed it, she named me Iman as well!! (*Rolls Eyes*)
Anyway, Daddy too, has a strong-as-super-glue relationship with Tok Itam - Daddy's ever obliging uncle who has been a tremendous help to the family thus far. So being stuck in between two very dear people, we had to make a decision - one that's fair and somewhat reasonable. Since we went to G G Ma's abode for iftar last year, Daddy decided that it's only just and impartial that we go to Tok Itam's this time round. And for that, I missed the opportunity of poking my greasy little fingers on the infamous buffet spread at G G Ma's iftar.... Sighs!
Nonetheless, I had a SWELL time at the Tok Itam's, running around with my second cousins along the corridor, indulging in Tok Itam's birthday cake and greedily unwrapping the Children's Day gifts presented by Aunty Siti. Most of all, I enjoyed every minute I had with my favourite second cousin, Fitrah Nabilah - the demure princess of Aunty Roziani. :)
But seriously, what would YOU have done if you were caught in such a sticky situation?
