IMAN - O - LANTERN

"Your name is Ching Chong Cheng, right??? Not Iman, kan...." Well, those were the very words that welcomed me the moment I stepped into Mummy's staff room last Friday. Bewildered, I gave one of Mummy's teaching 'kakis', a blank stare. "I think if your daughter walks alone, she'd be mistaken for a Chinese girl," she added, giving me smile as she handed me a lotus mooncake.

Living in a multi-racial society, Mummy firmly believes that I should mingle with kids of other races and cultures, particularly so as I am enrolled in a Muslim childcare. Of course as a gahmen servant, Mummy upholds the notion that we should all be one united people, regardless of race, language or religion, to build a democratic society, based on justice and equality.... Eh wait, isn't that the Singapore's pledge? The one I have to state EVERY day, once I enter formal schooling? Well anyway, to instill the very same notion in me, Mummy forced a cheongsam (the sexy kind with slits at the sides) over my already bulging tummy and dragged me to the Mid Autumn Festival that took place in her workplace.

I learnt a lot of things actually; from the art of appreciating Chinese tea and the techniques of lighting a lantern to the different types of mooncakes available in the market. Most importantly, I made 3 new friends - Tysha, Jannelle and Jackie - all of whom are the princesses of Mummy's teaching 'kakis'.

It's a wonder how Tysha and I could clique the moment we sat beside each other. All because we shared a similarity - a Hello Kitty lantern that produces a highly screeching sound, a sound that drives both our Mummies mad. Anyway, she's one hot babe, I tell you! Er, Tysha I mean.... Not Hello Kitty or our Mummies! Hurhurhur! Hope to see her again in yet another get-together with Mummy's teaching 'kakis' in the future. Cos' like they say, "the more we get together, the merrier we'll be...." :)

In the meantime, I've got to think of how to finish the packets of mooncakes we brought back home.... Er, mooncakes anyone????

ADDICTS (A PROCRASTINATOR'S LATE ENTRY)

I have a confession to make. My parents are addicts. Yes, you heard me right. ADDICTS! I'm not sure why, but they (read: my Mummy), keep going to THAT place over and over and over and over again. A place where kiasu Singaporeans (like Mummy) congregate and swarm like bees in search of honeys. A place where aunties and grannies exhaust their monies. A place, called Singapore Expo.

Not so long ago, Mummy and Daddy left us for half a day in search of gadgets and the likes at Comex 2006, held at Singapore Expo. Upon satiating their desire for these gadgets and expending their moolahs, they came home, satisfied - and 3.5k poorer. On another occasion, addicted-to-Expo-Mummy purchased a bundle of 27 books for Ihsan & I at The Books Warehouse Sale - guiltless and devoid of regret. Mummy was totally exhilarated cos' of the good bargains she attained - none of the books cost more than 5 SGD, to be specific. Not bad, hor? Nonetheless, lethargic me couldn't handle all the fuss, so I decided to sit (and subsequently lie on my tummy) in one quiet corner. But Mummy still didn't get the hint. And she proceeded to the John Little Warehouse Sale and some other exhibitions in other halls, with sleepy me and the 27 books all in tow. All in all, I swear Mummy made 4-5 trips to Spore Expo during the whole week. (*Sighs*)

The Great Findings of The Expo Addicts

Now, with a techie enthusiast for a Daddy, and a bookworm for a Mummy, it's not long that we'll end up like one. As it is, we are already practicing for it. Hehe....

OK, so what happens when we have too many things purchased from the Singapore Expo? Well, you guessed it. Back to Singapore Expo, it is.... (*Rolls Eyes*)

A CUT ABOVE THE REST

FINALLY! The lion has been tamed and the unmanageable hair, sacrificed. Nope, we are NOT talking about Mufassal the Lion King, but my brother Ihsan, the Drama King cum the Lion King of our household. Inspired by Dini Amani's family visit to the barber, Mummy eventually decided to cut Ihsan's messy mane ~ much to the relief of Granny & the Bibiks.

Being the Drama King he is, Ihsan caused much chaos and pandemonium in the oh-not-so-glamorous-but-highly-efficient-and-skillful-barber shop, just opposite the road of Riverina. Imagine, having THREE man, just to ensure that the mane is cut to precision. (Ihsan's crying and wailing somewhat reminded me of Paul T/w/o/h/i/l/l of SI - who confessed that he'd cry like a girl if his hair is cut). Anyway, couldn't stand the racket and clamor, I decided to sit on one of the attractive kiddy rides just outside the shop. Hmm.... Actually, more like surveying which kiddy rides to choose when we are done with Ihsan's haircut. Hehe.... (*Rubs Hands In Glee*)

But what truly made MUMMY'S HAIR stand, was this:

Barber 1: Bawak mainan ke tak? First time eh dia potong rambut?

Daddy: Tak bawak. A ah. First time potong rambut. Tak pernah potong sejak cukur rambut. (Smiles)

Barber 1: Hmm, takpelah. Tapi dulu ada satu kes tau. Ada budak ni nangis-nangis and menggelenyah macam ni. Sekali bila potong rambut, terkena telinga dia sikit. Bapak budak itu sue barber dia. So, masih nak potong rambut budak ni jugak?

Daddy: Er.... Ah, potong, potong, potong....(Bewildered)

LOL! I think that creepy story could probably scare Ihsan off from the start. No wonder he was causing such a din and trying to break loose from the barber's chair from the very beginning!

A TRIP UP NORTH

The 1 week September holiday has been well-spent, me thinks. HOW, you may ask? Ahhhhh.... Let me count the ways....

1) Became Mummy's shopping buddy - *Checked*
2) Accompanied Mummy to her workplace (& opened her Checher's Day gifts) - *Checked*
3) Joined Granny, Grandad, Aunty Dibz & Aunty Tiq to JB - *Checked*
4) Went to a trip up north - *Checked*
5) Skipped a few days of school to do the above - *Checked*

Speaking of which, I've to say that I truly enjoyed the trip up north. Though it was just a short weekend getaway to the historical town of Melacca, it was just as refreshing. Shopping spree at Mahkota Parade & Dataran Pahlawan, a jacuzzi treat at Century Mahkota, a sumptuous dinner of Ikan Bakar, an educational (and tiring!) trip to the refurbished Melacca Zoo and most of all a long overdue visit to Nek Long's HUUUUUGE villa at Jalan Kandang, made the trip undeniably memorable. Especially so, since this was the last time we drove up north in Daddy's pitch black Corolla. Sob sob....

Had most fun at Nek Long's villa and the Melacca Zoo, though. (Unlike Mummy & my Aunties, I don't EXACTLY enjoy what women term as retail therapy). Anyway, adik Ammar (Nek Long's one and only grandson a.k.a my second cousin) is soooo lucky to live there. Er, in the VILLA, I mean. Not the Melacca Zoo! (*Rolls Eyes*) Imagine having to live in an abode with 8 rooms, 2 kitchens, 2 dining rooms, 2 living rooms and a back lawn big enough for a 7-a side soccer match. Just the other day, I overheard Granny saying that it cost Nek Long RM 30K just to do the carpet grass. Fuyooooh!

Ok. Reality check! Gotta go get ready for school. Can't wait to tell my friends about the animals I saw up close and personal at the Melacca Zoo. :)

MY MUMMY, MY CHECHER, MY IDOL

"HAPPY CHECHERS' DAY TO YOU, HAPPY CHECHERS' DAY TO YOU, HAPPY CHECHERS' DAY TO MUMMYYYY.... HAPPY CHECHERS' DAY TO YOUUUU...."

Alas, I've resorted to singing for Mummy! Not that I'm such an excellent singer, but all because I'm practically penniless at this point of time. Sorry Mummy, I'm left with no choice but to spend my last penny on Teacher Ema's and Teacher Nisa's presents. I even had to make my own card, albeit my limited artistic talents and perhaps tasteless colour co-ordination (at least, that's what Mummy claims). I'm sure you understand Mummy. After all, who else would appreciate my singing if not you? :)

Nonetheless, I'm glad that Mummy truly enjoyed herself on Chechers' Day this very year. To tell you the truth, Mummy was ecstatic cos' technically speaking, 2006 was the first year she celebrated Chechers' Day @ B/G/S/S. In 2004, she spent her Chechers' Day in KKH, devoting her time to yours truly who was hospitalized. Subsequently in 2005, darling Ihsan came into our lives and Mummy was still on maternity leave during Chechers' Day. So when, THE day came, apa lagi, Mummy pun go all outlah....

Besides performing their heart-thumping rendition of "STOMP" for the Chechers' Day Concert, Mummy and her teaching 'kakis' had an exhilarating time immersing themselves in the roles of SMURFS, adorning themselves in blue and white outfits as well as props to go along. With "Favourite Cartoon Characters" as the theme for the Chechers' Day Lunch @ Holiday Inn this year, the staff @ B/G/S/S had a jolly good time ~ humming to the tunes of cartoons in the 80s (remember "The Chipmunks", "Smurfs", "Heatcliff", "Care Bears" and the likes?) and basically, letting loose. Hehe....

Chechers' Day Celebration 2006

Nonetheless, what REAAAALLY made Mummy's day, was this:

Buat Guru Yang Kami Sayangi,

Indah permata menyinarkan cahayanya
Seindah hatimu yang tiada tandingannya
Kau pelita menyinari semua
Menghilangkan kegelapan menghapuskan duka

Kesabaranmu kami kagumi
Kegigihanmu kami sanjungi
Walaupun dikecewakan kami
Kau tetap di sini, membimbing dengan setulus hati

Walau ketegasan kau tonjolkan
Naluri kelembutanmu tetap dirasakan
Sikap kami terkadang menyebalkan
Tetapi kau balas dengan kesabaran

Sesalkah engkau selama ini
Memikul beban yang tiada terperi
Seribu luka mengguris hati
Dengan ketabahan engkau hadapi

Tiada kata dapat mengukuri
Budi pekertimu yang begitu tinggi
Kaulah pembimbing, kaulah teman
Kaulah DEWI anugerah Tuhan

Guru kami yang disanjungi dan disayangi
Kenangkanlah ikatan yang pernah bersemi ini
Walau nangis dan tawa kan tiada lagi
Budimu kan dikenang ke akhir nanti

Akhir kata, terimalah coretan ini
Dilakar dengan kesungguhan hati
Daripada murid-muridmu yang kerdil ini
Budimu guru yang kami cintai

(Salam Sayang Daripada Kami: Azmia, Nur Hidayah, Siti Zawani, Kamilia, Nur Mariana, Zahidah & Nur Izzah Diyanah serta murid-murid dari kelas 5/A & 5/B 2006)
